June's bulletin sees the launch of Recovery Watch, our monthly look at how many times the UK's broadsheet newspapers use the words 'recovery' and 'green shoots'. Plus we look at ways to beat writer's block and reveal the secrets of effective subheads.

    Today sees the launch of our new index to monitor the recovery from the global recession. Recovery Watch will track the UK broadsheets' use of the terms ‘green shoots' and 'recovery'. It’s our more upbeat answer to the Economist’s r-word index, which tracks how often the word ‘recession’ appears in news publications and predicts the ups and downs of the economy. Our first results show the quality papers used the word 'recovery' twice as much (1185 times) compared with the same time last year. And the use of 'green shoots' has also doubled since January ...
